Nigerian music sensation Davido extended his congratulations to South African singer Tyla after she made history by winning the inaugural Best African Music Performance category at the 66th Grammy Awards held on February 4, 2024. Tyla’s song ‘Water’ secured the victory, beating out tough competition from Nigerian artists including Davido, Burna Boy, Asake & Olamide, and Ayra Starr.
In a post on his X platform, He expressed his congratulations, writing, “Congratulations on your win @Tyllaaaaaaa! Big One for Africa! Keep soaring.” Despite not securing a win for his hit single ‘Unavailable’ featuring Musa Keys, He acknowledged and celebrated Tyla’s achievement in the category.
The Grammy Awards night wasn’t as successful for the Nigerian contingent, as He lost all three of his nominations, and Burna Boy lost all four, resulting in no Nigerian artist taking home an award despite having 10 nominations collectively.
