Chelsea legend Didier Drogba has named Nigerian striker Victor Osimhen as his favorite active footballer, choosing Osimhen over high-profile names like Erling Haaland and Kylian Mbappe. Drogba made this announcement during an award show in France, where he was asked various quick-fire questions.
Drogba, who played alongside legends like Mikel Obi, Michael Ballack, and William Gallas, picked Frank Lampard as his favorite teammate during his time at Chelsea. Lampard is one of only two players who have outscored Drogba in Chelsea’s history.
When asked to name his favorite active player at the moment, Drogba immediately answered “Victor Osimhen.” The 24-year-old Nigerian striker, currently playing for Napoli, is considered one of the best strikers in world football.
There have been comparisons between Osimhen and Drogba, as both have displayed similar goal-scoring prowess. Drogba scored 302 club goals in his career, while Osimhen has already reached 105 club goals.
In a 2022 interview with the Nigerian Football Federation, Osimhen revealed that his childhood idol was Didier Drogba. Osimhen cherished the moment when he scored against Chelsea, knowing that many of his friends were Chelsea fans who wanted him to fulfill his dream.
