Two siblings, Musa Idris (25) and Aliyu Idris (20), have been brought before a Kwara State Magistrates’ Court, facing charges of alleged culpable homicide and criminal conspiracy in the murder of their uncle, Mohammed Abubakar.
The incident occurred in Kinikini village, Kaiama Local Government Area of Kwara State. The suspects are accused of attacking their 54-year-old uncle with machetes, resulting in his death. The prosecution stated that the suspects conspired to assault their uncle when he attempted to mediate in a dispute between them and their father.
The charges against them contravene Sections 97 and 221 of the Penal Code Laws of Nigeria. According to the police report, the suspects had initially intended to attack their father but ended up attacking their uncle after he intervened and prevented the attack on their father. The suspects allegedly confessed to the crime, revealing that their motive for killing their uncle was his interference in their plan to attack their father.
The prosecutor, Gbenga Ayeni, requested that the accused persons be remanded in custody. The Magistrate, A. A Issa, ordered the suspects to be remanded in the Federal Custodial Centre in Ilorin and scheduled the case for further hearing on November 1, 2023.
