Former presidential media aide Doyin Okupe has urged for a political resolution to the escalating crisis in Rivers State. In a recent interview in Lagos, Okupe described the situation as dangerous and a misfortune, attributing the turmoil to a disregard for laws and rules.
Doyin Okupe emphasized that the root of the crisis lies in interests and that a political solution is essential. He stressed the need for the judiciary to be consistent and fair, judging strictly according to the law. He believes that adherence to the law by all parties would have prevented the current upheaval.

Suggesting a political approach, Okupe called for a negotiation table where the interests of all aggrieved parties are addressed to find a middle ground. He cited his extensive political experience, asserting that political solutions are capable of resolving any disagreement. The crisis, involving Governor Siminalayi Fubara and his predecessor Nyesom Wike, has also split the State House of Assembly into factions, both seeking legal backing.
