The anticipated rematch between IBF heavyweight champion Daniel Dubois and former two-time champion Anthony Joshua is picking up steam, with Turki Alalshikh, chairman of the General Entertainment Authority, hinting at a tentative date in February. This announcement came during the press conference for the Artur Beterbiev vs. Dmitry Bivol fight, where Alalshikh confirmed plans for a major fight card featuring rival promoters Queensberry and Matchroom.
Alalshikh expressed excitement about the upcoming matchups and emphasized the goal of determining the top fighters in each division, including notable names like Tyson Fury and Oleksandr Usyk. He stated, “In February, Queensberry against Matchroom, 5 vs. 5… We want the big fights and to see who’s really the best fighter in each division.”
Following Joshua’s surprising defeat to Dubois, speculation about his future in boxing has been rampant. However, Joshua has reiterated his commitment to the sport, and his promoter has confirmed that the rematch will be part of the Riyadh Season, a festival of entertainment and sports events. Both Frank Warren and Eddie Hearn have welcomed the prospect of the rematch.
