Edo guber: 9 unhappy PDP candidates threaten legal action against the party

Nine resentful Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidates for Edo State‘s governorship primary on February 22, 2024, have vowed to sue the party if their complaints are not heard.

According to sources, the nine candidates abstained from both the local delegates congress, which took place yesterday, February 10, and the ward congress, which took place on February 4 across 192 wards and 17 local government areas in Edo state.

Because of the purported abduction of election officials en route to the local government for the ward delegates congress, the congress was canceled in Etsako Central Local Government Area.

Recall that the nine aggrieved gubernatorial candidates had filed a petition with the party’s appeal panel regarding the makeup of the party leaders designated to lead the state’s ward delegates congress.

Deputy Governor Philip Shaibu, Omoregie Ogbeide-Ihama, Anselm Ojezua, Felix Akhabue, Martin Uhomoibhi, Hajia Hadizat Umoru, Omosede Igbinedion, Earl Osaro Onaiwu, and Arthur Esene are the candidates for governor who feel wronged.
Aslem Ojezua, speaking on behalf of the resentful candidates, claimed in an interview that they boycotted the local government congress because it was run using materials from the ward congress.

Ojezua stated that in order to correct the injustice committed by the Congress Electoral Committee, chaired by Governor Peter Mbah of Enugu State, they had contacted the appeal panel established by the party’s national leadership.

He said that no matter how well the foundation is laid, the finished product will still be flawed.

“We will follow the party apparatus, and we will keep reminding them of the dangers associated with that degree of conceit and irresponsibility if they continue in their actions.

“We currently have an internal dispute resolution mechanism of the party, but we will take whatever action is available to us.” Despite the fact that the other side has not answered, we are taking advantage of that and will contribute in some way.

“We will take any available option if the party ultimately chose not to listen to us.” We can file a lawsuit to defend our rights after we have tried everything else, he stated.

He urged the party’s members and supporters to maintain composure, promising that they would know who to blame for the party’s bad luck in Edo State when the time came.
