Edo Guber: APC reverses course, claims primary election to be undecided

Edo State‘s Saturday governorship primary election was deemed inconclusive by the ruling All Progressives Congress’s National Working Committee (NWC).

The decision was made in response to the controversy surrounding the poll that yielded roughly three distinct candidates for the gubernatorial election scheduled for September 21.

According to reports, Monday Okpebholo was declared the winner by returning officer Stanley Ugboaja, despite Governor Hope Uzodinma, Chairman of the Electoral Committee, having declared Dennis Idahosa the winner of the primary election.
Anamero Dekeri was proclaimed the election winner by Ojo Babatunde, who identified himself as the spokesperson for all local government returning officers.

The APC national secretariat in Abuja had a meeting for the party’s leadership on Tuesday, amid the turmoil surrounding the polls.

Following the meeting, Felix Morka, the National Publicity Secretary, spoke to reporters and emphasized that the election results were still pending and that further proceedings will take place on Thursday.

“I am here to give you the outcome of the emergency meeting of our party’s National Working Committee regarding the Edo State governorship primary election that was held today,” he declared.

“The National Working Committee of our party deliberated and decided that the governorship primary election has not been completed and has now fixed Thursday, February 22, for the completion of the APC Edo State primary election process at its emergency meeting held today, Tuesday, February 20, 2024, to consider the report on the Edo governorship primary election.”
