The Labour Party, LP, has accepted a minor change to its criteria ahead of the Edo State governorship primary election.
The change was made in response to the outcome of the party’s National Working Committee (NWC) meeting on Friday.
Obiora Ifoh, the Labour Party’s National Publicity Secretary, confirmed this in a statement issued on Friday.
According to Ifoh, the sale of forms, which was originally scheduled to conclude on Saturday, February 10, has been moved to Monday, February 12, and the governorship primaries, which were previously scheduled for February 22, will now be place on February 23.
According to him, the party’s leadership modified the guidelines for emergence of the election candidate.
He added that the party’s leadership upped the number of local government delegates from five to seven in each of the 18 LGAs.
Ifoh stated that the party considered inputs from many stakeholders, including National Assembly members, elders, and party leaders in the state, before making the decision.
He stated that they had all agreed to expand the number of delegates to ensure greater involvement and democratisation of the exercise.
The party also promised to maintain a level playing field for all contestants, stating unequivocally that it would not interfere with the process of selecting its flag bearer.
