A Togolese national named Michael Agbalo, aged 35, has been arrested by the Edo State Police Command for allegedly killing Maharazu Umar during a dispute at work. The suspect had hired Umar to assist him with construction work, but a misunderstanding between them escalated, resulting in Umar’s death.
According to the state command’s spokesperson, SP Chidi Nwanbuzor, the case was reported by one Clement Obagbikoko, who had initially hired the suspect for construction work. After completing the job, the suspect claimed that Umar had left, but Umar’s body was later discovered within the compound by Clement’s wife.
The suspect confessed to using a hammer to kill the deceased during their argument. The victim’s corpse has been deposited at the hospital, and the suspect will be charged to court soon.
In his statement to journalists, the suspect explained that the dispute began when he asked Umar to wash a shovel, but Umar refused, leading to a quarrel. When Umar picked up a cutlass, the suspect struck him on the head with a hammer in self-defense. However, he expressed regret over the fatal outcome of the incident.
