EFCC Denies Hackers Compromised X Account Amid Online Rumors

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has denied reports that its X account was hacked by internet fraudsters. Rumors had circulated that the account had been seized by individuals who had previously threatened to attack the anti-corruption agency online. These fraudsters allegedly accused the EFCC of violating constitutional procedures in its crackdown on online fraud.

Speculation grew after EFCC’s X account became temporarily unavailable, although the agency’s other platforms, including its website and social media accounts on Facebook and Instagram, remained active. However, EFCC spokesperson Dele Oyewale clarified that the account was not hacked, explaining that the temporary unavailability was due to routine updates being carried out on the account. He assured the public that the account would be restored shortly.
