A joint patrol team comprising officers from the Aviation Security’s Crime Investigation and Intelligence (CII) Unit and the Joint Military Task Force (JMTF) successfully apprehended three individuals suspected of engaging in cable theft near the FAAN Training School.
According to a statement by FAAN spokesperson Abdullahi Yakubu-Funtua, two of the suspects were caught on Friday while attempting to dig and cut electric cables that connected the Murtala Muhammed International Airport Powerhouse (International Wing, MMA) to the Domestic Terminal (MMA).
The third suspect, who allegedly acted as a middleman between the other two suspects and potential buyers at Arena Market, Oshodi, was arrested at the Hajj & Cargo Terminal based on information provided by the other two detainees.
Yakubu-Funtua revealed that an ongoing investigation revealed that one of the suspects had previously been convicted and sentenced to 28 days imprisonment for a similar offense in April 2022.
Currently, the suspects are being interrogated by FAAN AVSEC officials before being handed over to the police for prosecution.
