The Emir of Ilorin and Chairman of the Kwara State Council of Chiefs, Alhaji Ibrahim Sulu-Gambari, has extended his congratulations to Oba Afolabi Laoye on his installation as the new Soun of Ogbomoso land. In a statement, the Emir’s spokesperson, Mallam Abdulazeez Arowona, conveyed the Emir’s warm wishes and urged the new king to work towards the progress and development of Ogbomoso.
Oba Afolabi Laoye ascended the throne of the Soun of Ogbomoso following the demise of the former Soun, Oba Jimoh Oyewumi, in December 2021. He had previously served as a pastor in the Redeemed Christian Church of God before being selected as the Soun.
The Emir emphasized the importance of unity and consultation within the royal family and the community to foster peace and progress. He encouraged the new king to work collaboratively with all stakeholders to ensure the continued peaceful coexistence of Ogbomoso.
There has been a history of peaceful coexistence between Ilorin and Ogbomoso, with residents from both towns living harmoniously. The Emir’s spokesperson cited examples of individuals from Ogbomoso who have adopted Ilorin as their place of residence and emphasized that there has been no dispute or tension between the two communities in modern times.
The Emir’s message reflects the spirit of cooperation and neighborliness that exists between different communities in Nigeria.
