The Enugu State Police Command has verified that four people were killed in a recent communal altercation in the state’s Ezeagu Local Government Area.
Although everything have subsequently returned to normal, reports were gotten that the conflict had taken place between the villages of Oyofo and Awha in the council area.
On Friday, August 11, 2023, about 10 am, one tricycle and five motorcycles caught fire, signaling the commencement of the tragedy.
Ahmed Ammani, the state commissioner of police, acknowledged the occurrence and gave the order to send officers to the area.
He claimed that the purpose of the deployment was to preserve the sense of normalcy that had been restored to the region following the conflict.
In a statement released on Sunday, the Command’s spokesperson, DSP Daniel Ndukwe, said that 12 additional people had been detained in relation to the clash and the fatalities.
The clash, he continued, was caused by a dispute over land ownership between the two villages, according to preliminary investigation.
