Enugu police and DSS kill three robbery suspects

On Sunday, a joint operation involving the Enugu State Police Command and Department of State Service operatives apprehended three armed robbery suspects who allegedly specialized in robbing point-of-sale operators in the Enugu State metropolis.

The hoodlums, all male, were killed during a purported gunfire with security operatives on Second Avenue, Independence Layout, Enugu State.

The state police Public Relations Officer, DSP Daniel Ndukwe, said in a statement on Sunday that the feat resulted in the recovery of two locally-made revolver pistols with six live rounds of.9mm calibre ammunition, as well as the gang’s operational tricycle with number plate MGL 100 WL and fleet number ENS/20560, and objects suspected to be charms.

“Other exhibits recovered are cash sum of N500,000, rolls of PoS transaction printing papers, mobile phones, wallets, bags, and other exhibits, the hoodlums stole from PoS operators and their customers at different locations,” Ndukwe wrote in a statement.
The hoodlums attacked PoS operators at several sites in Enugu about 1 p.m. on Sunday, dispossessing them of the collected exhibits, according to the statement.
Following the claimed attacks, the operatives set up surveillance.

When the suspects saw the operatives, they opened fire.

“The security personnel responded with superior firepower, neutralizing the three of them while recovering the exhibits.”

“Many of the victims have identified the hoodlums, and some recovered exhibits as theirs,” he said.

Meanwhile, he stated that more investigations to apprehend other members of the criminal organization were ongoing.
