Ex-convict, wheelchair-bound drug dealer, others detained by NDLEA

Godwin Emuneyin, a 45-year-old physically challenged drug dealer who uses his wheelchair as a cover to deal in illegal substances like methamphetamine and cannabis, has been taken into custody by National Drug Law Enforcement Agency agents in Afuze, the headquarters of Owan East Local Government Area in Edo State.

According to the anti-drug agency, the suspect was taken into custody at his base in Afuze on Tuesday, November 7, as a result of reliable information.

“A wooden box used to conceal illicit substances, including 18 pinches of methamphetamine, one block, and 71 wraps of cannabis, was recovered from him as of the time of his arrest,” NDLEA spokesperson Femi Babafemi said in a statement that our correspondent was able to obtain on Sunday.

In other interdiction operations in Edo State, on Monday, November 6, NDLEA agents seized 42 bags of cannabis weighing 480 kg from a camp in the Aviosi forest in Owan West LGA. The same day, they raided the Utese forest in Ovia North East LGA, recovering 231.5 kg of the drug and demolishing a 0.778960-hectare cannabis farm.
On Thursday, November 9, while on patrol along Ngurore-Yola Road in Adamawa State, agents discovered a Toyota Corolla bearing the license plate TZG 97 KY. Inside the car’s body compartments were 30, 899 tramadol 225 mg and 100 mg pills.

According to Babafemi, “Sani Samaila, also known as Isa Male, 25, the driver who was discovered in possession of the drug exhibits, claimed he was transporting the shipment from Jalingo, Taraba State, to Yola, Adamawa State. Wednesday, November 8th, saw the arrest of Abdullahi Sani, also known as Danfulani, at Ngurore town. He was found in possession of a quantity of dried weeds, which were believed to be cannabis sativa and were wrapped in white nylon. He then led agents on a follow-up operation to the residence of an unrepentant ex-convict drug lord named Alhaji Bubakari (also known as Dan Mamuda), where 19 blocks of compressed cannabis weighing 13 kg were found.

On Monday, November 6, a combined team of NDLEA operatives with officers and men of the Nigerian Army, Nigeria Police Force, Federal Road Safety Corps, Defence Intelligence Agency, and the State Security Network, Amotekun, destroyed no fewer than 18.875 tonnes of cannabis sativa on 7.55 hectares of farmland in Ogun State. Additionally, 100 jumbo bags weighing 1,100 kilograms of the psychoactive substance were recovered at James town, Ogunmakin area of Obafemi Owode LGA. Six other men who were discovered on the farmland, including Okpor Chukwuma were also taken into custody.

On Friday, November 10, Olayinka Sowo, a 25-year-old commercial bus driver, was detained on the Ibadan-Akure Expressway due to suspicions of conspiring to transfer 45.150kg of cannabis from Lagos to Osun State.

On the same day, NDLEA agents in Abuja found 7,980 diazepam pills and 567 bottles of codeine syrup in a commercial bus traveling along the Abaji-Abuja highway. Following this, a follow-up operation at the Zuba motor park resulted in the 30-year-old consignment owner, Ugwu Ikenna, being taken into custody.

In Umuchime community, Ndokwa West LGA, in Delta State, the NDLEA, supported by members of the Nigerian Army, stormed a remote forest and destroyed 12.5 tons of cannabis on five hectares of farmland. They also recovered 53.22 kg of processed weeds and cannabis seeds.

Babafemi reported that during the operation, Christopher Anim, also known as Ogidi, was detained as a suspect.

On Tuesday, November 7, operatives in Kano arrested two suspects, Amarachukwu Eugene, 32, and Abdulaziz Auwal, 25, in connection with another operation involving 202 blocks of cannabis weighing 113.1 kg.
