Ex-Edo commissioner abandons APC amid governorship primary

Andrew Emwanta, a former Edo State Commissioner for Orientation and Communication, has left the All Progressives Congress (APC).

The former commissioner announced his resignation on Saturday, citing problems with the governorship primary.

Three people emerged victorious from the election. Dennis Idahosa was pronounced the winner by Governor Hope Uzodimma, the Chairman of the Primary Electoral Committee, and Monday Okpebholo was declared the winner by Stanley Ugboaja, the Returning Officer.

Additionally, Ojo Babatunde, claiming to speak for all local government returning officers, announced Anamero Dekeri as the election’s victor.

Edo

“I have decided to leave the party due to its inability to practice internal democracy, which resulted from the problematic proceedings of the recently held Edo governorship primary. I no longer have faith in the party’s leadership team or political philosophy as a result of it.

“It is a difficult choice for me to make at this pivotal moment, especially because I just recently joined the party a few months ago. However, as I still have the unalienable right to freedom of association (or dissociation), as provided by Section 40 of the 1999 Nigerian Constitution, as amended, my decision is unavoidable.

“I think that if I stayed in the APC, I would have to unintentionally agree with the party’s decisions, which goes against my beliefs, which would make it difficult for me to support any worthy candidate of my choosing. Anything else will be considered “anti-party.” Last year, I had this grievance with my old party, the PDP.

“Going forward, my goal is to become a “Independent” political actor who is able to freely back any candidate in next elections, given their qualifications, moral character, and compatibility with my principles and worldview. I have no doubt that this choice is ideal for my life’s philosophy, social orientation, and deeply held political beliefs.

Kindly take this letter as official notice that I’m leaving the APC. As I move on, I would appreciate it if you could remove my name off the ward’s registration. He continued, “I appreciate your understanding and the action you have planned.
