An explosion has hit the multimillion Naira Zungeru Hydro Electricity Dam in Niger state, raising concerns about a potential widespread blackout. The dam, which is yet to be officially commissioned by the Federal Government, is the fourth hydroelectric dam in Niger state, following Jebba, Kainji, and Shiroro.
The explosion occurred early this morning, though the cause remains unknown. According to a reliable source from the area, several workers sustained various degrees of injuries and are currently receiving treatment at nearby hospitals. Those with severe injuries, including a Chinese national, have been transported to Minna, the state capital, for further medical care.
The explosion has reportedly damaged some installations at the dam. The broader impact on the nation’s power supply is still unclear, and more details are expected to follow as the situation develops.
