The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command clarified on Sunday that social media activist Martins Vincent Otse, popularly known as VeryDarkMan, was not arrested but invited for questioning. The command’s spokesperson, Josephine Adeh, explained that the invitation was related to allegations of cyber stalking, cyber bullying, and defamation of character.
“The FCT Police Command wishes to clarify that VeryDarkMan was not arrested by the police but was only invited for questioning on the allegations of cyber stalking, cyber bullying, and defamation of character,” Adeh stated. VeryDarkMan has since been released after voluntarily providing his statement regarding these allegations.
Earlier reports by Naija News suggested that activist Deji Adeyanju informed Daily Post that VeryDarkMan was arrested for allegedly exposing a Nigerian involved in a duping case abroad. Adeyanju claimed that the police acted on the orders of FCT Police Commissioner Benneth Igweh, focusing on the alleged defamation rather than addressing the fraud allegations.
