A fire broke out early Friday at the Lagos State Government Staff Quarters on Odunsanmi Street, Ogba, Lagos. The blaze, which started around 2:20 a.m., severely damaged a two-bedroom apartment in Flat 5, Block 21 of the quarters. Initial investigations by the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) revealed that the fire was triggered by an electrical surge in the children’s room, resulting in the complete destruction of the room and extensive property damage estimated in the millions.
Dr. Femi Oke-Osanyitolu, Permanent Secretary of LASEMA, praised the swift response by the agency’s team, the Nigerian Police Force, and the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, which helped to contain and extinguish the fire before it could spread further. Thankfully, there were no casualties, and residents were educated on the safe use of electrical appliances following the incident. By 5 a.m., emergency personnel remained on the scene to ensure the situation was fully under control.
