Former Ajax goalkeeper and director, Edwin van der Sar, has confirmed that he is no longer in the intensive care unit and could be discharged from the hospital as early as next week. Van der Sar suffered a brain haemorrhage earlier this month, but he took to Twitter on Tuesday to share a positive update on his condition.
Posting a photo of himself and his wife at the hospital, the 52-year-old expressed gratitude for the support and well-wishes he has received. He wrote, “First of all, we want to thank everyone for all the great and supportive messages. I’m happy to share that I’m no longer in the intensive care unit. However, I’m still in the hospital. I hope to go home next week and take the next step in my recovery!”
The incident occurred when Van der Sar collapsed while on holiday in Croatia. He was then transferred back to the Netherlands, where he has been receiving medical care in the intensive care unit. His progress indicates a positive trajectory in his recovery.
