Former NIMASA Director General Ferdinand Agu Passes Away

Ferdinand Agu, former Director General of the now-defunct National Maritime Authority (NMA), recently rebranded as the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA), has died unexpectedly from a heart attack. Agu, who had been attending a traditional wedding in Abuja on Thursday night, passed away early Friday morning, leaving his friends and colleagues in shock.

A source close to Agu confirmed the news, expressing disbelief and sorrow over the sudden loss. Agu was highly respected in the maritime and architectural sectors and served as Senior Special Assistant to former President Goodluck Jonathan from 2011 to 2015, where he received numerous accolades, including the Award of Excellence and a National Merit Award in Transportation.

Agu’s commitment to public service extended beyond his professional career, notably through his involvement with the Federal University of Health Sciences and his dedication to youth mentorship. His unexpected death marks a significant loss for the maritime community and the nation.
