Fuel Scarcity Hits Ilorin as Prices Soar

Motorists and commercial riders in Ilorin, Kwara State, are stranded as petrol scarcity worsens, leading to long queues at fuel stations. Prices have skyrocketed from around ₦640 to as high as ₦1,000 per litre in some areas, with many stations completely out of stock.

Fuel retailers blame the situation on a lack of importation and loading in Lagos, noting that the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) is currently the sole importer of petrol. They warn that the crisis may continue until the country’s four local refineries become fully operational to meet demand.

A senior official from TotalEnergies confirmed the unavailability of petrol for loading in Lagos and expressed hope for a resolution. Meanwhile, commuters and businesses in Ilorin continue to suffer from the escalating fuel prices and shortages.
