Yusuf Gagdi, the Member representing Pankshin/Kanke/Kanam Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, has responded to the recent judgment delivered by the Plateau State Governorship Election Tribunal. He characterized the ruling as a minor setback within the broader political landscape and emphasized that the pursuit of justice is an ongoing journey.
The Plateau State Governorship Election Petition Tribunal had, on Friday, upheld Caleb Mutfwang as the duly elected governor of the state. This decision came as a result of a petition filed by the All Progressives Congress (APC) and its governorship candidate, Nentawe Yiltwatda, who contested the election results, alleging that Mutfwang’s nomination by the PDP was invalid and that there was over-voting in certain areas.
In a statement issued on Saturday, Gagdi expressed his belief that while the judgment represented a temporary setback, it did not shake his confidence in the justice system. He urged his supporters to remain composed and display decorum, emphasizing that the judiciary remains the last resort for the common man seeking justice.
Gagdi stated, “The judgment today was a continuation of the electoral process which shall climax at the Supreme Court. We believe in the judiciary to rectify any wrong we are convinced was committed in the election that deprived us of victory.”
He further explained that the tribunal’s verdict was just one of three stages available to seek redress and that it was a minor setback that did not diminish his trust in the judiciary as the ultimate hope for justice.
While awaiting guidance from party leaders and their principal on the next course of action, Gagdi appealed to his supporters not to lose hope but to remain committed to the ideals of the “Generation Next” mantra and to maintain decorum in their actions.
He concluded with optimism, saying, “The best is saved for the last! Because it is not over until it is over. We are hopeful of a more favorable outcome at the appellate courts.”
