In a sorrowful turn of events, the former Speaker of the House of Representatives, Ghali Na’Abba, has passed away at the age of 65. The 8th Speaker, born on September 27, 1958, breathed his last in Abuja on Wednesday morning.
Family sources revealed that the late Na’Abba had been grappling with a prolonged illness before succumbing to its challenges. He had previously undergone medical treatment abroad, spending several months recovering before returning to Nigeria.
The family sources also conveyed that the final rites, in accordance with Islamic traditions, are scheduled to take place today in Abuja.
Ghali Na’Abba, a prominent figure in Nigerian politics, aligned himself with the Peoples Democratic Party and successfully clinched the party’s candidacy for the Kano Municipal Federal Constituency. This victory came to fruition during the April 1999 general elections.
Notably, Na’Abba rose to prominence as he assumed the role of Speaker of the House of Representatives following the political upheaval that led to the departure of the first Speaker of the Fourth Republic, Salisu Buhari. His contributions and leadership during his tenure left an indelible mark on the nation’s political landscape.
