The tragic event unfolded on Boxing Day at the Ezinihitte Area Command around 6:30 pm, sending ripples through the law enforcement community and beyond.

According to sources, the shooting occurred in the room occupied by Corporal Ugwu, and it was heard by officers on counter duty. Upon investigation, they discovered Ugwu lying in a pool of blood, having sustained three gunshot wounds to his chest and left hand. The immediate response was to rush him to Evergreen Hospital in Ezinihitte, where, unfortunately, he was pronounced dead by the attending doctor.

The circumstances leading to this tragic incident point to a serious altercation between Ugwu and his girlfriend. In the heat of the fight, the 23-year-old Girlfriend reportedly seized the officer’s rifle and, shocking those present, managed to successfully fire three shots, claiming the life of Corporal Ugwu.

The details surrounding the altercation remain unclear, leaving many perplexed as to how the young woman gained control of the police rifle. Speculations arise, suggesting that Ugwu may have been the one who taught her to handle the firearm.

The lifeless body of the police officer has been deposited at the Obizi mortuary, marking the beginning of a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding his tragic death. Meanwhile, Amanda Uchechi Ugo the Girlfriend is currently in police custody, where she will undergo interrogation as part of the ongoing efforts to unravel the truth behind this unfortunate incident.
