The Federal Government has extended an invitation to organised Labour to continue minimum wage negotiations, with a meeting scheduled for Friday. Labour has confirmed it will attend, with hopes of receiving a better offer.
The negotiations had stalled on Tuesday after Labour rejected the Federal Government’s proposal of ₦60,000, up from ₦57,000, while Labour reduced its demand from ₦497,000 to ₦494,000. The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and Trade Union Congress (TUC) set an ultimatum to conclude the talks by the end of May.
Minister of State for Labour and Employment, Nkeiruka Onyejeocha, appealed to Labour to be considerate, noting the economy is still recovering. She emphasized the government’s commitment to securing a fair wage for workers and called for a collective effort to address economic challenges.
