The Recording Academy, organizers of the Grammy Awards, has acknowledged Burna Boy as the leading Afrobeats star, stating that there is no African artist “bigger” than him. The statement was made in congratulation to Burna Boy and other nominees in the newly created Best African Music Performance category at the 2024 Grammys.
The Grammys highlighted Burna Boy’s global impact, noting his collaborations with stars like Ed Sheeran and Justin Bieber. The Academy described Burna Boy as “firmly in his imperial era” and recognized his achievements, including consecutive Grammy nods for his albums “Twice as Tall” and “African Giant,” as well as his first UK No. 1 album, “I Told Them…,” released this year.
Burna Boy’s track “City Boys” received a nomination in the Best African Music Performance category, and he is also nominated in three other categories at the 66th Grammys.
