The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in Kwara State has taken swift action, parading two suspects for their alleged involvement in the sexual abuse of teenagers.
Idowu Yahaya, a 39-year-old private security guard at Gaa Akanbi area, Ilorin, has been accused of raping a 15-year-old girl in an office. Simultaneously, John Balogun, 49, a teacher at a private school, is alleged to have raped his 17-year-old step-daughter in the Osere area of Ilorin.
The state Commandant of NSCDC, Mohammed Umar, used the opportunity to remind parents and guardians of the crucial role vigilance plays in protecting children. He emphasized open communication between children and their parents, urging parents to create a safe space for children to share their concerns, even about friends or relatives.
Umar stressed the significance of educating children about safe routes, especially to and from school, and advised avoiding isolated areas.
The cases underline the importance of safeguarding children’s well-being and advocating for their protection from any form of abuse.
