Hardship: Ohanaeze advises Tinubu against declaring state of emergency

President Bola Tinubu has been advised by Ohanaeze Ndigbo, the highest Igbo sociocultural group, not to declare a state of emergency due to the current economic hardships facing Nigerians.

A state of emergency, according to Ohanaeze chieftain Okechukwu Isiguzoro, would only be a diversion from the misery that Nigerians are going through.
Ohanaeze’s divided Secretary-General encouraged Tinubu to put the wellbeing of Nigerians first by implementing sustainable economic solutions, including as debt relief, cutting back on the cost of administration, restoring temporary fuel subsidies, and providing farmers with subsidized fertilizer.

Isiguzoro claims that Ohanaeze Ndigbo “tackles the critical issues plaguing our nation under Tinubu’s leadership in a momentous and persuasive declaration.” It is clear: in order to escape the current economic challenges, Nigerians and Ndigbo need real, workable answers.

“Mere words and any state of emergency declared by Tinubu will only be a diversion from the real problems and hardship that the people are facing. Concrete action is required to address these deeply ingrained concerns, going well beyond symbolic gestures.

“Tinubu needs to act decisively to address the widespread economic challenges.

This entails replacing his incompetent monetary policymakers and economic team with internationally renowned economists like Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, Dr. Akinwumi Adesina, and Kalu Idika Kalu.

“To save the economy from collapse, it is essential to seek their knowledge. If this is not done, there will be severe repercussions that have significant implications for politics and security.

“Tinubu can prioritize the welfare of Nigerians through the implementation of sustainable economic solutions, such as debt relief, reduction of governance costs, temporary restoration of fuel subsidies, and subsidized fertilizers for farmers, by enlisting international experts like Okonjo-Iweala, Adesina, and Idika Kalu.

It is critical to look for workable solutions to lessen the hardships that the average Nigerian is facing in current economic downturn.
