A health crisis has struck a Kenyan school where approximately 90 schoolgirls have reported feeling ill, with difficulties walking and symptoms of knee pain, according to BBC reports. The affected students are from Eregi Girls High School, located in western Kenya. Kenyan health authorities are currently investigating the situation, and the girls have been admitted to the hospital for treatment.
Jared Obiero, a regional director of education, stated that “the education department, the county government, and public health department are giving a commitment that the children will be treated.” A senior official from the Ministry of Education visited the school and assured parents that the situation was under control, and classes would continue as normal for other students.
Blood, stool, and urine samples from the affected students have been sent to laboratories in Nairobi, the capital of Kenya, for testing. Results of the tests are expected to be available later today.
