Herbalist Haruna Tahir has been put in custody by a Kano State magistrates’ court in Kura for allegedly scamming a woman who went to him for herbs to help her conceive.
Police called the defendant in for an arraignment on a three-count charge that included duping, threatening, and fraud against the woman.
According to the prosecutor, Insp. Nasiru Dan Sokoto, the woman was eager for a kid because she had been married for a long time without having children. The defendant has been accused of extorting her.
The prosecution reported that the defendant allegedly set up criteria for her, one of which was to provide him cash and wrappers; if she failed to do so, he would charm her.
The woman testified before the court that she experienced physical changes and that after meeting the herbalist, he urged her to bring all of her possessions to him, which she did right away.
The defendant, however, claimed that he actually received N13,000 from the woman and one wrapper, contrary to the sum she mentioned.
The hearing was postponed to August 10 by Magistrate Aminu Usman Fagge, who had previously ordered remand.
