Guinness World Record holder Hilda Effiong Bassey, popularly known as Hilda Baci, recently delved into her strained relationship with her father, Effiong Bassey Edem, shedding light on the heart-wrenching experience of being disowned.
During an interview on the Tea with Tay podcast, Hilda shared that the primary issue with her father arose from his abrupt absence in her life. As she recounted, her father had been a part of her and her siblings’ lives since their early years. However, a heated dispute between him and her mother brought about a significant change in their family dynamics.
What particularly devastated her was her father’s sudden departure, especially since both she and her older brother were on the verge of completing their university education. Hilda found it puzzling why her father, who had been supporting their educational journey from nursery school through secondary school and into the early years of college, had ceased funding their studies.
Recalling a painful episode, Hilda recounted the day she reached out to her father to discuss her educational expenses. Much to her surprise, her father’s response over the phone was akin to disowning her, effectively playing the “I’m not your dad” card, leaving her emotionally wounded.
