“Hooligans and Traders Occupy Multi-Million Naira Lagos Bus Stops”

Many of the multi-million naira bus stop shelters erected in Lagos State to serve commuters are not being used by their intended users. These modern bus stops and shelters were constructed to shield commuters from harsh weather conditions. However, Findwhosabi Metro’s investigation found that many of these shelters have been taken over by miscreants, mentally challenged individuals, and traders, displacing the commuters they were designed to serve.

Numerous bus stops and shelters across different parts of the state were observed to be largely vacant of commuters while being occupied by traders and individuals conducting various activities. Some shelters have been turned into makeshift shops, lottery terminals, and places for homeless individuals to seek shelter during the night. In some cases, traders pay token amounts to certain individuals to allow them to operate within the shelters.

This situation highlights a disconnection between the intended purpose of these facilities and their actual usage. It raises concerns about the effectiveness of public infrastructure projects and the need for proper maintenance and management to ensure that they serve their intended purposes and benefit the public.
