The House of Representatives Ad Hoc Committee, investigating the non-remittance of money to the National Housing Fund (NHF) and the utilization of funds from 2011 to date, has issued a warning to chief executive officers (CEOs) of banks that have failed to respond to its invitation. The committee has given these CEOs until next Thursday to appear before it with the required information.
The committee is specifically probing the non-remittance of money to the NHF, and its investigation has revealed that some CEOs have been non-responsive or have provided excuses for their absence during the inquiry.
Chairman of the ad hoc committee, Musa Bagos, emphasized that while the committee is committed to giving all stakeholders a fair hearing, it will not hesitate to enforce the law against anyone who undermines its authority or sabotages the investigation.
The committee has also directed the Accountant General of the Federation, Dr. Oluwatoyin Madein, and the acting governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Mr. Folashodun Shonubi, to appear in person before the panel next Thursday.
The committee’s stance underscores the seriousness of the investigation and the determination to hold all relevant parties accountable for their actions or lack thereof in relation to the National Housing Fund and the utilization of funds.
