“I Would Consider Being Invited to Serve as Nigeria’s President a Demotion,” Says Oyedepo

Bishop David Oyedepo, the General Overseer of the Living Faith Church Worldwide, addressed his congregation during the September 2023 Leadership Empowerment Summit held at Canaanland, Ota. The theme of his message was “Engaging The Covenant Platform Of Order For Continuous Growth And Expansion.”

He emphasized the significance of the teachings related to the year of Covenant Highways, asserting that these teachings were not mere promises but solid covenants. He explained that the term “Covenant Highways” denoted the responsibility of embracing these covenants to embark on the path of life.

He said, “Now, when I got that light in 1984, you know what I said? I will consider a demotion if I were invited to be the president of this country. Nobody will invite me to be a chairman of a local government, I wasn’t qualified but I saw a future from that Scripture and I knew by my engagement, was taking me somewhere and it’s taking you somewhere because we have a common destination in Christ.”

Bishop Oyedepo recalled a pivotal moment in 1984 when he received divine insight. At that time, he expressed his willingness to consider it a demotion if he were ever invited to become the President of Nigeria. He acknowledged that he wouldn’t have been qualified for a local government chairmanship position either. However, he saw a future unfolding through the Scriptures and believed that his engagement with the Word was leading him to a significant destination. He encouraged his congregation, stating that they shared this common destination in Christ.

In conclusion, Bishop Oyedepo urged everyone to maintain a covenant mentality guided by the Word. He expressed his conviction that the church would continue to thrive as a source of end-time prosperity, with God supernaturally transforming the lives of each member. This transformation would enable the church to become a symbol of the “good old days.”
