The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) has initiated the tracking of more than 70 executive and constituency projects valued at N7.3 billion across Borno State, Nigeria.
Abubakar Gujja, a Principal Superintendent at the Borno State office of the ICPC, disclosed that this project tracking is being carried out at the request of the Chairman of the Commission, Prof. Bolaji Owasanoye. The goal is to ensure transparency and the fraud-free execution of all projects included in the budget, promoting satisfactory completion and utilization of these projects.
The exercise is expected to span two weeks, and the ICPC will closely monitor the implementation of the projects. In cases where discrepancies or infractions are observed during the tracking process, the ICPC will provide recommendations in its report. These recommendations may involve requesting contractors to return to the project site or advocating for the recovery of funds paid for the contract.
To ensure the safety of the tracking team, the ICPC will collaborate with security agencies in areas vulnerable to attacks by Boko Haram and other security threats. This move underscores the commitment to safeguard the effective execution of government projects while promoting accountability and transparency in public spending.
