Ifeanyi Ubah, the senator representing Anambra South’s senatorial constituency, has shown an interest in running for governor in 2025.
Ubah, who disclosed this in an interview with media in his Nnewi country home on Sunday evening, rated the present governor, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo, and successive governments in the state as lacking in development and policies that would benefit the state.
He stated, “I reiterate, if elected, I will serve only one term in office. I do not require more than four years to create the state. I don’t need four years to carry out some of my ambitions. My dedication to the Anambra people spans a single four-year period. I will provide them with effective, strong, and direction-driven leadership.
“I would reduce the present and previous governments to 20%; 80% of the content I propose to introduce in Anambra has never been considered before. I intend to hold local government elections within four months after being elected, and they will serve for four years. This will relieve the governor of governance responsibilities, allowing the 21 local governments to operate independently and develop at the same time.
Ubah insisted on doing things differently. “I understand that others have made similar pledges, but this is my commitment to the people that I will fulfill in a single term. I differ from those who have before made this pledge.
My people recognize me as someone who keeps his promises. “I will have a resounding engagement with stakeholders meeting, some of which will be written and others verbal,” he said.
The senator stated that whoever governs the state must have assets in the state, stating, “The people know you are one of them and have assets that make you a stakeholder in the state.”
“It will not be fair to me to make such large investments in Anambra, and my children will be unable to return due to insecurity. We need to fix Anambra, and that is why I plan to run for governor in the next election.”
Senator Ubah went on to say, “I have a strong urge to run for governor in Anambra because this government and those that came before it have failed to put the state on the path of development that our people demand.
“We must build support for our business; promote our sector to make it a hub for health tourism; and expedite community development through local government elections.
“Voting for people with overly inflated personalities and structures has failed us; it is time to vote for those who are passionate and have a track record, which is who I represent. I am willing to shift the story. That is why my manifesto hasn’t changed since 2013.
