“IG Establishes Panel to Investigate Police Cadet’s Death”

The acting Inspector-General of Police, Olukayode Egbetokun, has established a seven-member Panel of Inquiry to investigate the circumstances surrounding the death of a police cadet, Sulaiman Jika, at the Nigeria Police Academy in Wudil, Kano State. The panel, led by the Deputy Inspector-General of Police in charge of the Force Criminal Investigation Department, Abiodun Alabi, has been given a four-day deadline to complete the investigation.

This development comes after the tragic death of Sulaiman Jika, a 100-level police cadet, who reportedly died due to alleged starvation and malnourishment at the academy. Some cadets accused the Commandant, AIG Sadiq Abubakar, of mismanaging the feeding allowance meant for the students and creating an unhealthy environment.

A cadet, who chose to remain anonymous, claimed that Jika was left untreated at the academy’s clinic due to the lack of drugs and medical personnel. The incident has raised concerns about the living conditions and treatment of cadets at the police academy.

In response to the allegations and the cadet’s death, the Inspector-General of Police set up the Panel of Inquiry to investigate the circumstances and provide recommendations. The Force aims to ensure transparency and impartiality in the investigation and has expressed condolences to Jika’s family and the academy community.

The tragic incident has drawn attention to the conditions and practices at the Nigeria Police Academy, with cadets and staff members expressing concerns about inadequate food, high traffic at the unequipped clinic, and other challenges faced by students.

The police academy, in its official statement, expressed deep sadness over the passing of Sulaiman Jika and offered condolences to his family. The academy stated that Jika had sought medical attention for an ailment and had been discharged after treatment but was readmitted later, leading to his untimely death.

The investigation by the Panel of Inquiry will shed light on the circumstances surrounding Jika’s death and the overall conditions at the police academy. The Force aims to ensure justice is served in this case and prevent similar incidents in the future.
