Immigration Launches Online Passport Portal

The Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, is set to launch the first online portal for passport application in Abuja today (Monday). The move aims to enhance the application process, making it more efficient and accessible for both international and Nigerian applicants.

During a demonstration session on Friday with the Comptroller General of the Nigeria Immigration Service, Caroline Adepoju, the minister highlighted the establishment of the online application platform. The Federal Government has been working on the full automation system for applications, with the minister stating in December that the process was “99 per cent done.”

The online application system is expected to include features such as uploading passport photos and supporting documents. The minister provided details on the cost for applications, with Nigerian applicants paying N25,000 for a 32-page passport with five-year validity and N70,000 for a 64-page booklet with a 10-year validity. Foreign applicants will pay $130 for a five-year validity passport with 32 pages and $230 for a 10-year validity passport with 64 pages.

Applicants are required to submit their applications through the online portal at https://passport.immigration.gov.ng.

Dignitaries who attended the event included the Chairman of Nigerians in Diaspora Commission, Abike Dabiri-Erewa; the representative of the International Organisation for Migration, Stephen Matete; Country Manager of Development Alternatives Incorporated, Joe Abah; Founder of Kwandala Foundation, Tijjani Musa, and the Co-founder of Technext, David Afolayan. The launch of the online portal marks a significant step toward modernizing and streamlining the application process in Nigeria.
