Russian President Vladimir Putin is set to host Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi on Thursday, as confirmed by Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov. The meeting comes against the backdrop of both nations fortifying their economic and military alliances amid challenges posed by Western sanctions.

“I can confirm. There will be Russian-Iranian negotiations on December 7,” Peskov announced during a press briefing on Tuesday, responding to media reports about President Raisi’s upcoming visit.
The visit follows Putin’s trip to Iran in July of the previous year and Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov’s discussions in Tehran in October with regional counterparts.

Amid allegations from Western nations, asserting that Tehran is supporting Russia’s offensive in Ukraine by supplying significant quantities of drones and weaponry, this meeting holds geopolitical significance.
Iran’s official news agency, Irna, reported that President Raisi’s trip to Moscow is in response to an invitation from President Putin. The agenda for the one-day visit is expected to encompass bilateral matters, with a focus on economic interactions. Additionally, discussions on regional and international issues, notably the situation in Gaza, are anticipated to be high on the list of topics to be addressed.
