Russian President Vladimir Putin is set to host Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi on Thursday, as confirmed by Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov. The meeting comes against the backdrop of both nations fortifying their economic and military alliances amid challenges posed by Western sanctions.
“I can confirm. There will be Russian-Iranian negotiations on December 7,” Peskov announced during a press briefing on Tuesday, responding to media reports about President Raisi’s upcoming visit.
The visit follows Putin’s trip to Iran in July of the previous year and Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov’s discussions in Tehran in October with regional counterparts.
