Grammy award-winning Nigerian singer, Burna Boy, also known as Damini Ogulu, revealed that he is unfazed by the misconception that he is new in the music industry, despite having released his debut album a decade ago.
After Davido’s recent comment placing Burna Boy under the category of “new cats” alongside Rema, Asake, and Fireboy DML, many criticized the statement, feeling that it underestimated Burna Boy’s achievements.
In a recent interview with Apple Music’s Ebro, Burna Boy expressed that he embraces the notion that his movement is still considered new, as it makes him feel younger and motivated to achieve more.
He said, “It is a good thing that people think my movement is new. I love that. Because it keeps me young. It means like, I can do so much more, you know. It stretches my life span. I’m living longer than I thought I would than I even planned to, you know.”
The “Last Last” crooner has always been confident in his greatness and acknowledges that he can excel in various music genres. He believes that music goes beyond one specific genre, and he feels blessed to have the freedom to explore different musical styles, noting that it would have been a waste if he had restricted himself to a single genre.
