The Ekiti State High Court in Ado Ekiti has rendered null and void the appointment of a caretaker committee to oversee the affairs of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the state. Justice Olusegun Ogunyemi reinstated the State Working Committee (SWC) of the party, led by Alaba Agboola.
The dissolution of the Ekiti State Executive Committee of the PDP by the National Working Committee (NWC) in June, which led to the constitution of a caretaker committee chaired by Sadiq Obanoye, triggered the legal action. In response, the Agboola-led SWC filed a suit against the PDP acting National Chairman, Umar Damagun, and two others.
In his judgment on Tuesday, Justice Ogunyemi declared the dissolution of the Ekiti State Executive Committee as null and void, thereby dismissing the caretaker committee appointed by the NWC. The court issued an order of perpetual injunction restraining Damagun, the PDP, and their agents from recognizing the caretaker committee members as individuals entitled to the affairs of the Ekiti State PDP.
Furthermore, the court prohibited Obanoye and other members of the Ekiti State PDP Caretaker Committee from presenting themselves as the caretaker committee of the PDP in Ekiti or managing the affairs of the state chapter of the party.
Alaba Agboola, expressing his reaction to the judgment, emphasized the commitment of the SWC to bringing the PDP back to winning ways. He stressed the importance of following the party’s rules and constitution in decision-making, underscoring the dedication to upholding the rule of law. Agboola affirmed loyalty to the national body and readiness to collaborate in any manner to advance the progress of the party.
