Kaduna Governor Warns Against Fraudulent Palliative Schemes

In a recent development, the Governor of Kaduna State, Uba Sani, issued a stern warning to individuals engaging in nefarious activities within local communities. These individuals are allegedly peddling forms that claim to secure residents a spot as beneficiaries of government-issued palliatives and social interventions. The governor’s statement, conveyed through his Chief Press Secretary, Muhammad Lawal Shehu, vehemently condemned this illicit practice.

Governor Uba Sani clarified that there are no legitimate forms available for purchase under any pretext, promising access to palliatives or inclusion in a social register. He emphasized his unwavering commitment to ensuring that these vital relief measures reach their intended recipients.

To facilitate this goal, the governor established a palliatives committee back in July 2023. This committee has been lauded for its inclusive composition, with representatives from various segments of society, including the Nigeria Labour Congress, Trade Union Congress, other organized labor entities, religious and traditional leaders, Civil Society Organizations, Persons with Disabilities, Local Government Chairpersons, as well as Youth and Women Groups.

The people of Kaduna State have been encouraged to liaise with their respective local government councils to learn about the procedures for registration in the Kaduna State Social Register. This register functions as a comprehensive database of impoverished and vulnerable households throughout the state. It plays a crucial role in the identification of eligible beneficiaries for targeted social protection initiatives and other government interventions.

Governor Uba Sani urged the public to remain vigilant and to promptly report any suspicious activities or instances of palliative diversion to the relevant authorities. Those found guilty of such offenses will face legal prosecution in accordance with the law.
