Kano Police Seize ₦129.5 Billion in Fake Currency

The Kano State Police Command has arrested three suspects for alleged dealings in counterfeit currency, recovering a staggering sum equivalent to ₦129.5 billion. The fake currencies seized included $3,366,000, CFA51,970,000, and ₦1.4 million. Police Commissioner Salman Garba stated that these arrests are part of intensified operations conducted between November 25 and December 9, 2024.

In addition to the counterfeit currency case, 59 other suspects were apprehended for various offenses, including armed robbery, cattle rustling, kidnapping, drug dealing, and theft. Police also rescued kidnap and trafficking victims and recovered a range of items, such as live ammunition, motorcycles, tricycles, Indian hemp, and stolen cattle and sheep.

Kano Police Spokesman SP Abdullahi Kiyawa praised the impact of these operations, noting improved security, thriving businesses, and heightened safety for residents. The command assured the public of its continued commitment to enhancing security through collaboration with other agencies and the community.
