The Kano State Government has announced the need for six million vaccine doses to address a diphtheria outbreak spreading across the state’s 44 Local Government Areas. The announcement was made during a meeting between Governor Abba Kabir and representatives from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, as stated in a press release from the Press Secretary to the Deputy Governor, Ibrahim Shuaibu.
Governor Kabir emphasized the state’s commitment to enhancing the 11-year partnership between Kano State Government and the Gates Foundation. The Foundation’s delegation was received by Deputy Governor Aminu Gwarzo, who reiterated the state’s dedication to improving healthcare across all levels. He expressed gratitude for the Foundation’s support in the health sector and expressed interest in collaboration in agriculture and digital finance.
Mr. Jerremy Zungurana, the leader of the Foundation’s delegation in Nigeria, commended the ongoing partnership and praised the state’s healthcare development efforts. He assured sustained assistance to the state’s initiatives, aligning with the governor’s requests.
