In a statement released by Mrs. Mofoluwake Edgar, Managing Director of the Duke of Shomolu Foundation, it was revealed that “Kashimawo” would delve deeply into Yoruba mythology to narrate the captivating story of Chief Moshood Abiola. The play aims to celebrate the life and ultimate sacrifice of Abiola, emphasizing his significance as a symbol of democracy and a representation of Nigeria’s collective aspirations for a great nation with a free people.

While acknowledging Abiola’s political role, the statement clarified that the play would not focus on political issues. Instead, it will explore the essence of life and seek to understand the evolving spirituality around a life destined for greatness. The production will draw inspiration from the effervescent Yoruba folklores and the rich repertoire of proverbs that shaped and guided Abiola’s life.
