Kenneth Okonkwo – Opposition Faces Tough Challenge Against Tinubu in 2027

Former spokesman for the Obi/Datti campaign, Kenneth Okonkwo, has expressed skepticism about the opposition’s chances of defeating President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 elections. In an interview with Arise TV, Okonkwo argued that President Tinubu’s success in manipulating the political system to secure his presidency would make it nearly impossible for the opposition to unseat him. He emphasized that the opposition has failed to effectively challenge the government and convince Nigerians of their capability to govern better.

Okonkwo criticized the opposition for focusing on acquiring power rather than consolidating their platforms and holding the current administration accountable. He noted that the courts have undermined the electoral process by granting the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) too much discretion, allowing them to act against the will of the people. Okonkwo asserted that without a united and strategic opposition, any attempt to take power from Tinubu would be a “tall dream.”

He also highlighted the importance of cohesion within opposition parties, urging them to form a strong force before the next election. According to Okonkwo, the judicial system’s failure to uphold the law in the last election further complicates the opposition’s chances. He concluded that unless the opposition can unite and effectively challenge the current administration, their efforts to take power in 2027 may be in vain.
