An elderly architect’s lover’s murderer was apprehended after bank employees noticed a hand holding the man’s head still while verifying a transfer to deplete his account.
On September 25, after paying him a visit at his house in the Setor Oeste district of Goiania, state of Goias, Brazil, Jose Henrique Aguiar Soares, 22, assassinated the 64-year-old.
He then attempted to access his online banking using the older man’s phone, but he had to raise his head to go past face recognition.
The transfer was completed but was later marked as suspicious after the bank’s security department received pictures of the access attempts and noticed what appeared to be a hand keeping the man’s head up.
When police were dispatched to the account holder’s house, they discovered his body posed with a crucifix in hand, as though he had killed himself.
However, when they looked at the CCTV, they noticed that Soares was seen leaving the premises around 5 am with a sizable luggage.
When he returned to the premises, he was detained. It appears that he had hoped to say that he had discovered the dead body on his own and that the police would believe it was a suicide case.
When they soon tracked down his true identify and discovered that he was already wanted for other financial offences, the police claimed that he first offered a false name before confessing to the murder.
He is being held by authorities until they carry out their investigation.
