The kinsmen of Moshood Kashimawo Olawale (MKO) Abiola from Gbagura in Abeokuta, Ogun State, have urged President Bola Tinubu to officially recognize the late politician as a democratically elected president. The appeal was made on Wednesday by the Tobade Progressive Club of Gbagura.
In a statement signed by its president, Shamwill Keshinro, the kinsmen emphasized the significant sacrifices made by MKO Abiola and numerous Nigerians for the return of democracy in 1999. They called on the Federal Government to invoke the Doctrine of Necessity to start the process of officially declaring Abiola as a democratically elected President of Nigeria.
While the Buhari administration posthumously awarded MKO Abiola the Grand Commander of the Federal Republic (GCFR) honor, Keshinro noted that this gesture should be followed by formally recognizing Abiola’s presidency. The kinsmen also praised Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun for renovating MKO Abiola’s family house in Abeokuta.
